Man shot, killed by police in Gorham WMTW Portland

A 32-year-old man is dead after he was shot and killed by a Gorham police officer while trying to escape. The incident happened Friday afternoon near the Burger King at the Village Mall plaza in Gorham. The Office of the Maine attorney general said the suspect, whose name has not been released, was wanted on warrants. When he was confronted by Gorham police, he tried to escape in a truck. He rammed a police cruiser and was shot when it looked as if another officer was in danger of being run over by the truck. A woman was with the suspect at the time of this incident. Female inmates earn certificates and degrees at Women’s Reentry Center WMTW Portland

Seven incarcerated women received degrees or certificates from the University of Maine at Augusta, Washington County Community College, or the University of Southern Maine’s coding program on Friday. Through use of Second Chance Pell Grants, students are able to focus on their studies in psychology, behavioral health and mental health. “Our crimes do not define us. We are all more than that mishap in the road,” said Tracy Fleischer. The women who were celebrated today said that this is not their last stop with academics and that they plan to continue to further their educations.
